Message Credits & AI Models

How message credits work, what each AI model costs, and how to choose the right model for your chatbot.

Every reply your chatbot sends costs credits. The number of credits per reply depends on which AI model your bot uses. Your plan includes a monthly credit allowance — the same number you had before as a message allowance.

How Credits Work

When a visitor asks your chatbot a question, the bot generates a reply. That reply costs credits based on two things:

  1. The model your bot uses — each model has a fixed credit cost per reply (see the table below).

  2. Actions performed during the reply — if the bot also performs actions like submitting a form, triggering a handover, or running a custom action, each successful action costs the same number of credits again.

The formula: credits = (1 + number of actions) x model credits

For example, if your bot uses a model that costs 2 credits per reply and it also submits a lead form during that reply, the total is (1 + 1) x 2 = 4 credits.

Greetings are always 1 credit, regardless of which model you use. This is the welcome message your bot sends at the start of each conversation.

AI Models and Credit Costs

AI Bot Kit offers seven AI models. Most use just 1 credit per reply. Premium models are more capable but use more credits per reply.

GPT-5.5

The most capable model — best for high-value interactions

Not sure which model to pick? Start with one of the 1-credit models (GPT-5.4 Nano or GPT-5.6 Luna). They handle most support and FAQ use cases well. You can always switch to a premium model later if you need more capable answers.

Your Credit Allowance

Your plan's credit allowance is the same number you had before as a message allowance:

Plan
Monthly Credits

Free Full Access

100 (lifetime, not monthly)

Basic

1,000 / month

Essential

2,000 / month

Business

3,000 / month

Credits renew at the start of each billing cycle on paid plans. On the Free Full Access plan, the 100 credits are a one-time lifetime allowance.

If you have add-ons, those extra credits are added to your monthly allowance.

What Happens When Credits Run Low

At 80% used — You'll receive an email notification letting you know your credits are running low. This gives you time to adjust your model choice or purchase more credits.

At 100% used — New conversations are paused. Any reply that your bot is already generating when you hit the limit will be delivered in full — your visitors won't see a cut-off response. But no new conversations can start until your credits renew or you add more.

How to Choose Your AI Model

  1. Open your chatbot in the dashboard.

  2. In the left sidebar, go to Settings.

  3. On the General tab, find the AI Model section.

  4. Pick the model you want from the list. Each option shows its credit cost.

  5. Click Save changes.

Your bot will start using the new model for all future replies. Existing conversations are not affected.

Tips

  • Use a 1-credit model for most bots. GPT-5.4 Nano and GPT-5.6 Luna are fast, capable, and make your credits go the furthest.

  • Reserve premium models for high-value bots. If you have a sales or product-expert bot where answer quality directly drives revenue, a higher-cost model can be worth it.

  • Check your usage regularly. Go to Settings > Plans & Billing to see your remaining credits and adjust if needed.
